Hot off the back of their top 10 radio hit urban single 'Pretty Lady', Wellington based reggae band BrownHill are set to release their debut album First Love on 29 March.
An intoxicating mix of smooth reggae tunes with a distinctive pacific vibe, the nine-piece act describe the album as a culmination of their own individual experiences and lessons around one central theme - love.
From the highs to the lows - all wrapped up in beautiful harmonies, up-lifting beats and sunny-side-up lyrics - BrownHill want people to use their music as a "tool of encouragement for anyone facing the challenges that life and love throw at us".
After individually harnessing their musical abilities through strict church upbringings, BrownHill released their self-titled EP in 2011, and found an immediate audience with reggae fans all over the world.
The supportcontinued to flourish when BrownHill performed with the likes of International Reggae Sensations such as J Boog, Spawnbreezie, Katchafire, Three Houses Down, 1814, George 'Fiji' Veikoso and many more, prompting them to record tracks of their own.
So that's exactly what they did. Throughout 2012, BrownHill were hard at work - mixing raw talent with a stamp of creativity - laying down the groundwork to what would become their debut full-length album - First Love.

P-Money Signs to Duck Down Music US!

Dawn Raid Entertainment, LLC and Dirty Management are pleased to announce that highly accomplished producer and DJ, P-Money, has signed a new deal with US label, Duck Down Music.
With a string of platinum albums and number one singles to his credit, P-Money has become a household name in New Zealand. Now he joins stable mate David Dallas as the latest Kiwi to sign a deal with the renowned New York based label that has distributed projects for 9th Wonder, B-Real of Cypress Hill, Talib Kweli, De La Soul, Buckshot, Pete Rock & Smif N Wessun, Sean Price and more.
The news comes off the back of his success working with soulful songstress Aaradhna whose latest album Treble & Reverb he produced. The critically acclaimed album’s lead single ‘Wake Up’ has gone platinum, and the record taken her to new heights with the recent announcement of her own record deal with Republic Records US.
A true ambassador of NZ Music, P-Money also co-wrote and produced five of the biggest New Zealand singles of the past decade; “Not Many”, “Stand Up”, & “Stop The Music ft Scribe”, “Keep On Callin ft Akon” and “Everything ft Vince Harder”. The latter of which broke through to UK airwaves on BBC1 and was dubbed Zane Lowe’s Hottest Record in the World.
As a teenager P-Money poured endless hours into his craft of DJ’ing, a discipline that would see him compete in numerous DJ Battles worldwide and culminate in a 3rd Place prize at the DMC World DJ Championship (a Bronze Medal in the Olympics of the DJ World!).
The skills developed during those competitive years are evident every time P takes the stage, and in the diverse range of artists lining up to collaborate with him – just in the last year he has worked with sister-DJ-duo MayaVanya, George FM buddy Dan Aux, Iva Lamkum, Six60 and Australian emcee Sky’High.
P-Money is currently working on his fourth studio album Gratitude, due for release later this year.
The finalists for the Taite Music Prize 2013 have now been confirmed.
Named after the late Dylan Taite, one of the country's most highly respected music journalists, this will be the fourth year for the award. The Taite Music Prize's purpose is to recognise outstanding creativity for an entire collection of music contained on one album. The winner will receive a cash prize of $10,000, to be spent as they wish. The cash prize is kindly supplied by PPNZ Music Licensing.The winner will also receive recording time at the Red Bull Studios and a year's supply of Red Bull.

From the Young Gifted & Broke movement comes hip-hop outfit @Peace with their latest release – a 10 track conceptual EP about a failed relationship aptly named Girl Songs.
Featuring Tom Scott (Home Brew) and Lui Tuiasau on vocals, @Peace won over the bloggers with the release of their self-titled debut in 2011, which featured a musical soundscape laid down by Christoph El Truento (Wonderful Noise), Hayden ‘Dandruff’ Dicky and Brandon Haru.
Since 2011, @Peace have been working on their first major release, a conceptual album about space, finality, quantum physics and other things that you probably can't dance to.
Girl Songs is the preview to this craft - veering slightly off the boutique rap track that he normally takes, Tom Scott reveals that listening back to ‘Girl Songs’ is like “listening to my subconscious shout at me from under a pile of suppressed denial”.

Off the back of painting eight of the giant tanks down in Auckland's Silo Park, Askew One (Elliot O'Donnell)
is embarking on a new venture, collaborating with Auckland skate brand Arcade to create a limited run of exclusive
skate board deck designs.
To celebrate the release, Arcade will hold a launch party on Wednesday 12 December from 6–9PM at their Cross St store in
central Auckland. The two Askew One designed decks will be available for purchase on the night, and exclusively from the store
until sold out.
Opening in 2011, the independent skate shop has drawn on the cultural heritage of Auckland, quickly becoming a staple in the
scene - hosting art exhibitions, skate competitions, music performances and product launches, and amassing a solidcrew for whom
the shop is a second home.
"My collaboration with Arcade actually started mid-year when they invited me to paint the shop window," says Askew. "I've
watched them as they have worked closely with a handful of local artists during the past year and I respect that. I think despite
the fact they are a young and small locally owned store, their decision making about what they get involved in and how they engage
the local community is driven by what they believe versus what may be the easiest commercial route. I like to work that way too and
so it's only natural that we can come together like this."
Askew has lived around the K'Rd area for most of the last decade, and has always loved the aesthetic and potential of Cross
Street, seeing it as a good fit to launch the boards.
"I think these guys were brave setting up a retail space down there but someone had to lead the way," he says. "I really enjoy
that they are a skate focused outlet too; it's awesome to see the store become a hub for the emerging generation of kids skating
and I look forward to seeing people skate or collect these decks."

Hallelujah, Aaradhna's bringing some soul back into the charts with the lead single off her new album Treble & Reverb – which is out today - claiming the #1 spot in the Radioscope Airplay Top 100.
The 'metro/retro' single 'Wake Up', is also making its mark in the official NZ singles chart where it's currently sitting pretty at number 2.
Originally penned as a plea to herself, Aaradhna wrote the song when she realised life was passing her by and that she was ready to get back in the game.
And back she surely is - when her harmonies spill through the speakers in the opening track of Treble & Reverb, you learn that it's her silky voice over a doo-wop style, along with her newfound attitude, which prove Aaradhna and music "go good together".
Dripping with soul and sprinkled with sass, Treble & Reverb is Aaradhna's most definitive album yet. Channeling influences including Amy Winehouse, Ruth Brown, LaVern Baker, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, and Little Anthony and the Imperials, Aaradhna’s calling on some of the vintage soul's greats - and judging by her knack for writing hypnotizing harmonies - they seem to be answering.
Currently in talks with international labels, the Kiwi songstress is also set to take on the world.

Throughout your life certain artists will resonate with you more than others. Often you can look back and pinpoint the moment when the influence of a particular artist changed your musical taste or your opinion about something.
Jamiroquai was one of those bands for me. Largely due to the fact I was so obsessed with Hip Hop & R&B music as a kid – I never bothered to give any music outside of my little box a chance.
Like everyone else I was intrigued by the "Virtual Insanity" video when it dropped, but stealing my sisters copy of their Travelling Without Moving album then subsequently picking up their previous 2 albums opened up a whole new world to me, and led me to discover a raft of other artists and songs.
They remain significant to me not just because of their great catalogue, but because I credit them as being the band that made an extremely closed minded kid realize he was capable of enjoying other genres of music.
This E.P is the culmination of an idea we started floating around 3 years ago. A project inspired by one of my favourite bands isn't something I’ve taken lightly. We've put our hearts into this, I hope you enjoy it and I hope that we've done some justice to the work of a great act.
All Songs inspired by, sampled or interpolated from the catalogue of Jamiroquai.

It's no secret that Pacific Reggae has made big strides on the world music stage in recent years and Dawn Raid Entertainment are pleased
to announce the newest addition to the iconic local label, Wellington-based nine-piece band, BrownHill.
BrownHill is made up of nine Samoan friends all born & raised in Wellington, who individually harnessed their musical abilities through strict Church upbringings.
Independently releasing their own self-titled EP in 2011, the irresistible appeal of singles "First Love" featuring Reggae legend Fiji, and "My Girl" found an immediate audience with Reggae fans all over the world.
Lead singer Caesar Masoe’s deep and arresting vocals struck a cord with Dawn Raid founder Brotha D who recognized a classic Reggae sound, which mixed with talent and a stamp of creativity from the other eight members made an exciting proposition.
"I've been following Caesar for over seven years, from his time as a solo artist through to the growth and development of the BrownHill band," says Brotha D. "BrownHill have a cool and crisp sound which I look forward to promoting to the world."
Their debut album First Love was recorded over the course of 2011/2012 amongst touring duties supporting and backing international stars such as J-Boog, Fiji and SpawnBreezie. The album is set for release later in the year.
