Dawn Raid Signs Up-and-coming Reggae Sensation 'Swiss'!

After a huge online / viral buzz from his self-released single and video 'Slow Wind', Dawn Raid Entertainment is pleased to announce the signing of RnB / Reggae artist SWISS to a worldwide deal for the release of his new EP Mr Slow Wind through Dawn Raid / FMG / Universal Records.
Currently residing in Brisbane, the 20 year-old Wellington-born singer of Tongan descent has gone from strength to strength, recently performing shows in Australia, New Zealand, and a four city tour of the United States plus supporting acts such as Nesian Mystik, J-Boog, Fiji, and 3 Houses Down. Swiss is also building a
healthy fan base in the US and Hawaii as well as closer to home.
"The Reggae scene in New Zealand and the Pacific has been steadily growing over the last five years," says Dawn Raid co-director, Brotha D. "I've been looking for a special young artist that can cross all boundaries and continue to push pacific-based reggae music on a world stage. Swiss has the talent."
The first single from the EP 'Slow Wind' hits radio this week and is set to be an urban smash with the video already having well over 197,000 views on youtube.
"To sign with such a prolific and established label has been a blessing," says Swiss. "For a label to sign and invest in someone at the age of twenty is always a risk, which is why I am so grateful for the team at Dawn Raid."

last local Hip Hop album to debut at #1 was Scribe's The Crusader in 2003. Congrats to the boys on a huge achievement!

20th Anniversary Official CD - Available This Saturday At Pasifika Festival!

That's right people we have again teamed up with Pasfika Festival to release the Official CD for the 2012 Festival which is the 20th Anniversary. We will
have the CD available at the Festival this weekend for a special price and there will also be a host of other specials with it including some of the artists on the
CDs albums and official Pasfika Festival merchandise. Maybe even a few guest appearances from some of the artists themselves.
For those of you that can't make it to the festival the CD will be available in stores and online from Monday 12th of March.
Askew One - Smoke Signals - Exhibition

Showing in March 2012, Smoke Signals is Askew’s biggest solo exhibition yet. A comeback after 5 years of struggling to identify a true style of canvas painting that best represents himself and his experiences as an outdoor artist, but within a confined indoor space. Said to be triggered by a ‘stroke-like’ event he experienced in 2011 called Call Fleming Syndrome, this newly found style was discovered five months later out of frustration whilst painting on a particular canvas at an art residency program (Fountainhead Residency, Miami), the moment captured on video.
A perfect blend of bold illustrative line work influenced by comic-books, the graphic power of the letter and his cynical yet patriotic slogans, with a mature taste of abstraction and finishing, these new paintings deal with his identity in New Zealand context but more specifically from the perspective of someone that grew up through the 80s and 90s. He cites the Americanisation of local culture during that era and growing up inner city as informing his aesthetic and creative direction. Four generations Kiwi but a mixed bag of European descent, Askew's Smoke Signals show discusses the cultural displacement of all the people living on this isolated island at the bottom of the Pacific ocean.

Our thoughts and prayers are today with the Yandall family as Mary Yandall, of the all-female New Zealand singing group the Yandall sisters, has passed away peacefully over the weekend.
Performing alongside her sisters Adele and Pauline, Mary entertained audiences both here and abroad for over 30 years. The Yandall Sisters' most well-known song, Sweet Inspiration, stayed on the NZ Top 20 singles chart for eight weeks in 1974.
The song also featured on our Pasifika: The Collection CD in 2010.
The group was named New Zealand Entertainer of the Year in 1977 and has continued performing since.
RIP Anna Mary Yandall - you will be missed.

Following their recent chart success, DNK World Music are pleased to announce they are releasing their debut label compilation: DNK World Music Presents: The Academy on March 26th. The announcement comes at an exciting time for the
independent Auckland label, which has also just signed an exclusive distribution and marketing deal with Frequency Media Group.
Founded by Nick "Karnel" Williams and producer Daniel "D.Love" Love in 2010, the prolific pair have been independently releasing albums and singles for the last four years, developing a large following with Auckland's youth, and producing
Top 10 singles for other artists including J-Geek and remixes for J Williams & Erakah.
DNK World Music will be showcasing four main artists on the album including R&B Singer Donell Lewis, hip hop artist Rickey Okay, producer D.Love and label founder Karnel. D-Love is an accomplished producer who recently produced the smash hit
"My Baby" by Pieter T, which is currently a Top 30 NZ single and has over 300,000 youtube views. He also released the single "Skinny Jeans" in 2011, featuring rapper Rickey Okay, that generated substantial viral buzz amongst the Auckland
Dance community. At just 19-years-old Donell Lewis rounds off the line-up as an exciting up-coming talent in the New Zealand R&B scene.
